Ebling Makes Third AEC Weekly Report, Joined By Root on Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (3/25/2024) – Senior utility/pitcher Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) made his third appearance (Mar. 4, Mar. 11, Mar. 25) on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Report with his second Weekly Honor Roll selection. He was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by junior outfielder/pitcher Cooper Root (Runnemede, N.J.). The duo offered solid weeks on the mound and at the plate. The former earned a win (5-0) with five strikeouts in a 3-1, game-one victory at Centenary University (N.J.) (Mar. 22), while going 4-for-11 (.364) with two runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI) over a 2-2 week against Stockton College (L, 7-14 on Mar. 19). Meanwhile, the latter took a loss (1-3) with two strikeouts in a 5-2, game-three loss versus the Cyclones (Mar. 24), while going 5-for-14 (.357) with four runs and 4 RBI during the same stretch.

The AEC Player of the Week title went to Immaculata University senior infielder Joey Sacco (Hamilton, N.J.), while the AEC Pitcher of the Week award was given to Marymount University junior Parker Casselberry (Jenks, Okla.). Ebling and Root were joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University graduate pitcher Stephen DiBattista (Clifton Heights, Pa.) and Cabrini University graduate outfielder/pitcher Zack Brook (Mt. Royal, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (7-9, 2-1) held an early lead over Stockton College (8-7) with three runs in the first inning (3-0) and insured it with a run in the fourth inning (4-2), but crooked numbers in the Osprey's seventh (3 runs, 5-4) and eighth innings (8 runs, 12-5) pushed the visitors to an eventual 14-7 win. Root was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Ebling was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI; he doubled home a run in the fourth inning (4-2) and doubled home two more in the eighth inning (7-13).

Over the weekend, the Griffins opened their AEC schedule with a three-game series with Centenary University. Gwynedd Mercy University won game one, 3-1, behind another brilliant Ebling pitching performance as the Red and Gold’s ace held the Cyclones to one run on eight hits and struck out five in the complete-game effort (9.0 IP). Root was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI; he tripled in a pair of runs with a fifth-inning triple to center field (2-0).

In game two – the first of the doubleheader – Gwynedd Mercy University celebrated another 3-1 victory; Root was 1-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs with a second-inning triple to right field (2-0). The series finale saw Root battle through a complete-game loss; he allowed four earned runs on 11 hits and a walk, while striking out four Cyclones. At the plate, Root was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Ebling was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues a busy home schedule on today, Monday, March 25, with a 3:30 p.m. contest versus Gettysburg College.
