Lancaster, Pa. – (2/17/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University graduate guard
Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) was named the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for recording 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal in the Griffins’ recent 76-70 league win over Marymount University (Feb. 12). It was Summers’ fifth AEC Weekly Report appearance; he has made three previous appearances on the Honor Roll (Nov. 25, Jan. 17, Feb. 10) and was named the AEC Defensive Player of the Week on November 11.
Opposite Summers, the AEC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week title went to Marywood University sophomore guard Michel Loftin (Atlanta, Ga.). The AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll included Pacers’ junior guard Trevor Seitz (York, Pa.), Immaculata University sophomore guard Mandon Seapoe (Upper Darby, Pa.) and senior guard John Proctor (Coatesville, Pa.), Neumann University junior forward Donte Dupriest (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior guard T.J. Lewis (Parkesburg, Pa.), Pratt Institute junior guard Mekhi Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Centenary University (N.Y.) sophomore forward Jasir Lane (Hoboken, N.J.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (20-3, 8-2) got revenge on their 78-72, January-15 AEC loss to Marymount University (15-7, 8-1) and collected their 20th win of the 2024-2025 season with Wednesday night's 76-70 triumph. The Griffins held the lead for most of the first half, but faced a 41-37 (2:01) halftime deficit before wearing down the Saints down with solid defense (Marymount University: 23-of-52, .442 FG), offensive rebounds (13), and plenty of point points in the paint (42). Summers contributed 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal to the victory. He was 11-of-14 (.786) from the field and 1-of-2 (.500) from the free throw line.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action next Tuesday, February 18, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
