Athletic Training


Certified Athletic Trainers are trained, skilled health care professionals who are directly responsible for the prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of injuries. Gwynedd Mercy University employs three full time athletic trainers who are BOC certified and maintained current active Pennsylvania licenses.

General Athletic Training Room Information:
Gwynedd Mercy University's main athletic training facility is located through the double doors of the side entrance to the Griffin Complex. The facility has four full-size adjustable treatment tables, a low height stretching table, three taping stations, two whirlpool tubs, a separate private exam room, and various strength training and rehab equipment. Modalities available included two whirlpools, heat, ice, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound. Please give athletic training staff advanced notice for any modalities.

The Gwynedd Mercy University Athletic Complex houses its own Athletic Training Room, which is located in the forefront of the locker room facility. The space offers a pair of small treatment tables, an ice machine, a counter-top sink, and cabinet storage. Modalities are limited to heat and ice. An athletic trainer will be available in the facility an hour and a half prior to games for taping.

Current Hours for Rehabilitation and Treatment:
The Gwynedd Mercy University Athletic Training Room is traditionally open from 11:00 a.m. til 8:00 p.m. daily, but hours will vary depending upon practice and competition schedules.
Pre-practice/game: The athletic training room will be open one hour prior each practice and two hours prior to each game for taping and treatment.
Post-practice/Game: The athletic training room may not always remain open for treatment after practices or contest. Please check with the athletic training staff of duty for availability of post-practice/game treatment.

*Required Student-Athlete Medical Forms and Information:
In order to participate in Intercollegiate Athletics at Gwynedd Mercy University, you must complete the requires student-athlete medical forms. Below you will find downloadable .PDF's of our required student-athlete medical forms. The forms are in an editable format, please download and add your information into to then be uploaded to your online portal (SportsWare)!  The only pages you will need to print are the physical exam pages, which you need to bring directly to your physician to fill out during your physical evaluation. We will then accept picture copies of this form uploaded to your online student-athlete portal. You can simply take a high-quality picture with your phone and upload it to the portal!

The online student-athlete portal is a platform called SportsWare, which is our electronic medical record (EMR) system that we use to keep track of all your information, paperwork, and injuries throughout your time as an athlete here at Gwynedd Mercy University. It is highly encrypted to protect personal health information, just like any portal your Primary Care Doctor may use to communicate with you at home. 
 
All forms must be completely filled out, signed, and uploaded PRIOR to the first day of practice!
