Formerly the Head Athletic Trainer at Bryn Athyn College, Cherwony joined the Gwynedd Mercy University athletic training staff as an assistant in the Spring of 2025. He has also functioned as an adjunct graduate professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since 2015.
Cherwony has truly experienced athletics at every levels as his intercollegiate athletics resume includes additional time at Neumann University (Dec. 2021 – June 2024) and Temple University (Dec. 2005 – May 2017). He worked in the professional realm with the Baltimore (Philadelphia) Stars (USFL) (Feb. 1985 – Aug. 1985), the Premier Lacrosse League (Mar. 2019 – Oct. 2020), as well as several National Lacrosse League (NLL) affiliates; the Philadelphia Wings (Sept. 2012 – May 2015/Sept. 2019 – Oct. 2022), the New England Black Wolves (Oct. 2016 – May 2019), and the Albany Fire Wolves (Oct 2022 – May 2023). Cherwony also offers 35 years of athletic training experience and 26 years of assistant athletic director experience from Cinnaminson High School (AT: July 1987 – Nov. 2020/AAD: June 1996 – Nov. 2020).
Cherwony has been recognized by his peers for his outstanding contributions in the sports medicine field as he garnered the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) 25-Year Membership honor in June 2007, and the NATA Service Award in June 2014. He also received the Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ) Victor D. Recine Distinguished Service Award in February of 2005 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in March 2009. Cherwony is also a New Jersey State Interscholastic Coaches Association (NJSICA) Hall of Famer (March 2014) and a Cinnaminson High School Athletic Hall of Famer (Oct. 2012). He earned the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association (EATA) Excellence in Secondary School Athletic Trainer Award (Athletic Trainer of the Year) in January 2018 and was named the Thomas Jefferson University Master's in Athletic Training Program Preceptor of the Year award in May 2019.
