Johnson’s Defense Delivers Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
Lancaster, Pa. – (12/15/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior guard
D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) was the latest Griffin to be named to the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll as the Red and Gold captain earned the recognition by recording 19 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and nine steals in wins over Penn State Abington (W, 86-70 on Dec. 8) and Brooklyn College (W, 82-69 on Dec. 13). He averaged 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 4.5 steals per game.
Johnson was joined on the AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll by Marywood University senior guard Shilo Bivins (Hanover, Pa.) as well as Saint Elizabeth University senior guard/forward Tye-Rell Monroe (Rio Rancho, N.M.) and senior forward Cam’Ron Martel (Houston, Texas). Bivins teammate, Pacer sophomore guard Joe Macciocco (Old Forge, Pa.) was named the AEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Pratt Institute senior forward Cameron Hatcher (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named the AEC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
Gwynedd Mercy University (7-2) consistently found
Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) for open perimeter shots and he made Penn State Abington (1-10) pay for leaving him so open as the graduate guard hit six from long range (6-of-9, .667 3PT%) in a career-high 22-point performance. In an 86-70 victory, the Red and Gold found their first double-digit lead with 7:33 (27-17) remaining in the first half. A late Nittany Lion push made the halftime spread look competitive; 39-33 (0:59), but the second half was a different story as a hot-handed Harris helped the Griffins put the contest out of reach early in an 86-70 conclusion. Johnson did his part in the victory with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and four steals.
Gwynedd Mercy University enjoyed another good afternoon from beyond the arch in an 82-69 win at Brooklyn College as they hit a season-high 14 three-point baskets (14-of-33, .424 3PT%) with their third game of .400 shooting or better so far this season. The Red and Gold's strong perimeter play carved them out an early double-digit lead; 23-13 (13:42), and extended a 40-34 (0:57) halftime advantage into a 71-46 (8:24) sustaining second-half lead. Harris led with 19 points, six rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Johnson accumulated nine points, six rebounds, six assists, and five steals in the triumph.
Gwynedd Mercy University competes next on Sunday, December 28, with their first contest - a 4:00 p.m. tip-off versus McDaniel College - of two at DeSales University's Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament. The outcome will determine the Griffins' opponent and game time for the following day, Monday, December 29.
