Horner and Scott Score AEC Baseball Honor Roll Mention with Play Versus PSU Berks
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/24/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University freshman pitcher Brayden Scott (Gilbert, Ariz.) and sophomore third baseman Ryan Horner (Cinnaminson, N.J.) were the first Griffins to appear on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Report as the duo garnered spots on the initial Honor Roll of the season. The former earned a win (1-0) in his Red and Gold collegiate debut as he held Penn State Berks to one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out seven Nittany Lions over 7.1 innings of work Meanwhile, the latter went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with five runs-batted-in (RBI), a walk, two stolen bases.
 
The AEC Baseball Player of the Week award went to Marywood University sophomore first baseman Tristan Gatchalain (Manorville, N.Y.), while AEC Baseball Pitcher of Week title went to Marymount University freshman Jay Wandell (Bethesda, Md.). Scott and Horner were joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University junior catcher/outfielder Robert Woodward (Somerdale, N.J.) and Marymount University junior pitcher/outfielder Ryan Cuadros (Springfield, Va.).
 
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-1) hosted Penn State Berks (1-1) to kick off the 2025 season with a Saturday matinee doubleheader. The Red and Gold came out of the dugout fired up and ready to showcase their talent in front of the home crowd. After scoring nine runs in the first four innings, the Nittany Lions answered back with seven unanswered runs and snuck away with a 10-9 victory in game one. In game two, Scott got the nod and was lights out in his first collegiate career start, shutting down the Penn State Berks bats in a 7-1 Gwynedd Mercy University victory. Horner was 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in both games; he doubled in a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the fourth during the game-one loss, then doubled in a pair of runs in the fourth inning of the game-two victory. He also drew a walk in the second contest.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University continues a busy early home schedule today, Monday, February 24, with a 3:00 p.m. contest against Delaware Valley University.
