Bell Named AEC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) showcased her talents in a 59-51 league victory over Marymount University as a season-high 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists, two blocks, and four steals earned her the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week title.
Opposite Bell, Immaculata University senior guard Reese Mullins (Hockessin, Del.) was named the AEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The AEC Weekly Honor Roll included Immaculata University fifth-year guard Tessa Liberatoscioli (Malvern, Pa.), Neumann University senior forward Emily DuPont (Malvern, Pa.), Marymount University sophomore forward Catie Kolwey (Hollywood, Md.), as well as Centenary University (N.J.) senior guard Brie Opdyke (Belvidere, N.J.) and sophomore forward Vatijah Davis (Poconos, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (5-11, 1-2) was on a seven-game losing skid before traveling to Marymount University (4-11, 1-2) for Wednesday night’s contest versus the league’s two-time defending champions. The Red and Gold jumped out to an early 9-3 (6:44) lead early in the first quarter and won the first quarter by a 10-point, 17-7, margin before keeping the Saints at bay in an eventual 59-51 AEC victory. Bell was 7-of-9 (.778) from the field while grabbing four rebounds, two assists, and four steals; she hit a pair of threes (2-of-2, 1.000) and a pair of free throws (2-of-2, 1.000) in the effort. It was her fourth straight double digit scoring performance and her eighth such performance of the season.
Gwynedd Mercy University is back in action on Wednesday, January 22, when they welcome Centenary University (N.J.) to the Griffin Complex for a 6:00 p.m. AEC tip-off.
