Bell Earns First AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Roll Recognition
Lancaster, Pa. – (1/13/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University freshman guard Kailyn Bell (Ridley Park, Pa.) impressed with her first two forays in league play as her 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game versus Marywood University (L, 54-63 on Jan. 8) and Immaculata University (L, 61-76 on Jan. 11) earned her, her first career appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
Immaculata University swept the AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards for the second straight week as senior guard Abigail Boyer (Royersford, Pa.) and freshman forward Carly Coleman (Springfield, Pa.) were respectively honored as the league’s Player and Defensive Player of the Week. Bell was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University senior forward Emily DuPont (Malvern, Pa.), Centenary University (N.J.) senior guard Brie Opdyke (Belvidere, N.J.), Marywood University senior guard Olivia Ciullo (Old Forge, Pa.), as well as Marymount University senior guard Samantha Bulik (York, Pa.) and freshman guard Kaylah Barr (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Gwynedd Mercy University played their first league opponent of 2025 on January 3 as they welcomed Marywood University (10-7, 1-1) to the Griffin Complex. Both teams exchanged blows in the first 30 minutes of play with the game knotted 43-43 going into the fourth quarter. The Griffins were outscored by nine in the fourth (20-11) and eventually fell to to the Pacers by a 63-54 final. Bell and junior forward captain Erin Eisenhart (Bethlehem, Pa.) both recorded a team-high 13 points. The former also tallied a rebound, three assists, one block, and one steal.
Gwynedd Mercy University (4-11, 0-2 AEC) welcomed AEC top-ranked Immaculata University (13-3, 3-0 AEC) to the Griffin Complex for a Saturday Matinee. The Red and Gold held strong against the league’s number one ranked offense as the Griffins only trailed by four, 30-26, going into halftime. A major factor came from the defensive side of the ball, as the Griffins held the Mighty Macs to just 10-of-30 (33%) from the field in the first 20 minutes. Immaculata came out of the half with an impressive 10-3 run in the third quarter and took control of the rest of the contest securing a 76-61 victory. Bell was 5-of-12 (.417) from the field with 12 points with career-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (8).
Gwynedd Mercy is back in action on Wednesday, January 15 when the team travels to the former AEC champions, Marymount University for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
