Lancaster, Pa. – (4/6/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior infielder
Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) stayed on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll and was joined on the latest edition of the report by senior pitcher
Ryan Kasper (Levittown, Pa.). DeCarlo was 5-for-11 (.455) with a walk, a run, and four runs-batted-in (RBI) in a 2-1 week versus Cairn University (W, 9-8 on Mar. 31) and league rival, Centenary University (N.J.) (L, 1-11/W, 4-3 (10) on Apr. 2). Kasper was the Red and Gold's winning pitcher in each of the victories, benefitting from two walk-offs after allowing just three base runners over 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Marywood University junior outfielder Cam Bott (Lusby, Md.) was named the AEC Baseball Player of the Week, while Neumann University freshman pitcher/outfielder Alex Gambol (Woolwich, N.J.) was named the AEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Meanwhile, DeCarlo was joined on the AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University junior infielder Anthony Rakotz (Vineland, N.J.), Centenary University (N.J.) junior pitcher Anthony Spungin (Staten Island, N.Y.), Immaculata University sophomore pitcher Stephen Devanney (Pitman, N.J.) and junior outfielder Nick Turnage (Haddonfield, N.J.), Marymount University junior pitcher Ben Smallwood (Fairfax, Va.) and senior outfielder Quincy Via (Springfield, Va.), Marywood sophomore pitcher Noah Trager (Schnecksville, Pa.), as well as Saint Elizabeth University junior first baseman/outfielder Sam Porch Jr. (Jersey City, N.J.) and senior pitcher Aiden Folsom (Beachwood, N.J.).
In the eighth inning, junior first baseman
Karl Wissmann (Cinnaminson, N.J.) evened a crazy contest with Cairn University (1-19) at 8-8 when his single through the box scored sophomore second baseman
Deven Ross (Lansdale, Pa.). In the ninth inning, freshman third baseman
Felix Melendez (Philadelphia, Pa.) tripled to the right-center gap with one out to set the table for junior shortstop
Jake Vitale (Laurel Springs, N.J.); his successful sacrifice fly plated the former for a 9-8 Gwynedd Mercy University walk-off victory. The Griffins overcame six errors in the win thanks to a seven-run third inning and the late-inning heroics. Wissmann was 3-for-5 with a run and a run-batted-in (RBI), and senior designated hitter
Jimmy DeCarlo (Ridley Park, Pa.) knocked in a pair of runs to get the Red and Gold rolling in the third inning with his bases-loaded single through the right side (4-2). Kasper earned the win (2-2) with a clean top of the ninth (1.0 IP, 1K).
Kasper kept the ball on the ground in the top of the 10th inning, DeCarlo rocketed a 1-1 pitch to deep center field for a triple, and freshman right fielder
Charlie Neal (Mickleton, N.J.) took the first pitch he saw to left field to score senior pinch runner
Jon Cimino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) for a Gwynedd Mercy University (12-11, 4-4) extra-inning walk-off in the second game of Thursday's AEC doubleheader versus Centenary University (N.J.) (8-14, 4-1); 4-3 (10). In game one, the Cyclones kept the Red and Gold spinning as a DeCarlo-Neal connection in the first inning was the only run the Griffins produced in an eventual 11-1 conclusion. DeCarlo was 4-for-7 in the twin bill with a walk and two runs-batted-in (RBI). Sophomore
Dylan Ganey (Langhorne, Pa.) (2.1 IP, 2H, 1R, 2BB) and Kasper (W, 1.2 IP, 3BB, 1K) were perfect complements to a solid no-decision start from sophomore
Connor Hafto (Washington Township, N.J.) (6.0 IP, 6H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 4K) in game two.
Gwynedd Mercy University finishes their AEC series with Centenary University on Tuesday, April 7, when they visit the Cyclones for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
