Thornton Named AEC Field Hockey Offensive Player Of the Week, Lawless Lands on Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (10/31/2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University graduate forward Caitlyn Thornton (Ivyland, Pa.) and sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) both made their third appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Weekly Report. This time, Thornton garnered her first AEC Offensive Player of the Week award while Lawless landed on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll. The duo helped lead the Griffins to a 6-0 win in their conference finale contest versus Manhattanville College.

Gwynedd Mercy University (7-9, 3-3) welcomed Manhattanville College (4-11, 1-5) for both teams' final regular and conference season game. Thornton first assisted on a goal by sophomore forward Amber Sims (Perkasie, Pa.) (3-0, 24:07) before recording a hat trick (35:53, 41:07, 57:56) of her own that ensured the Griffins ended their season on a high note. It was her second three-goal performance of the season. Meanwhile, Lawless made the only two saves (39:30, 51:04) she needed to earn her fourth shutout season.

Gwynedd Mercy University finished their 2022 season on Saturday, October 29 with a 1-0 shootout-loss to #5 Immaculata University in the quarterfinal round of the AEC Field Hockey Championship Tournament.
