Lawless Lures Second AEC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Honor
Lancaster, Pa. – (10/26/2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) earned her second Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award with recent league wins over Immaculata University (W, 2-1 on Oct. 19) and Neumann University (W, 5-0 on Oct. 22). The Griffin net minder needed only nine saves between the two affairs, making seven stops in the one-goal win over the Mighty Macs and two stops in a shutout effort versus the Knights.
Gwynedd Mercy University (6-9, 2-3) visited Immaculata University (6-7, 3-1) on Wednesday, October 19. An early goal from senior midfielder Haley Didinger (Berlin, N.J.) (6:42), a late goal from sophomore midfielder Amber Sims (Perkasie, Pa.) (39:09), Lawless’ leadership in goal allowed the Griffins to escape with the 2-1 victory.
On Saturday, October 22, the Griffins celebrated their three graduating seniors; Victoria Poust (Warminster, Pa.), senior defender Alexis Schambers (West Chester, Pa.), and Didinger with a 5-0 triumph over Neumann University (3-13, 0-6). (19:42), and Murray (29:29, 36:41)) for goals. Avellino also scored on a pass from Murray at 34:19 for the fourth Griffin goal.
