Brown and Morris Represent Griffins on AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/19/2022) – This time, senior libero Ashley Morris (Quakertown, Pa.) and junior middle hitter Ashley Brown (Lansdale, Pa.) represented Gwynedd Mercy University on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Volleyball Weekly Report as both garnered Honor Roll recognition for their play during a 1-3 week versus Penn State Berks (L, 1-3; 26-24, 15-25, 21-25, 24-26 on Sept. 13), Penn State York (W, 3-2; 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-9 on Sept. 15), Washington College (L, 1-3; 27-25, 22-25, 21-25, 11-25), and Notre Dame of Maryland University (L, 0-3; 14-25, 23-25, 25-27). Morris captained the Griffin defense with 94 digs, while additionally recording a kill, four assists, and five aces. Meanwhile, Brown was the focus of the Griffin offense with 37 kills, an assist, an ace, 10 digs, and eight blocks (1 solo, seven assisted).
Gwynedd Mercy University (3-6) took the early advantage in Tuesday's (Sept. 13) match at Penn State Berks (3-2), rallying from a 17-10 deficit to win the opening set by a 26-24 measure. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions evened the affair with a 25-15 win in the second set, confirmed their advantage with a 25-21 win in the third set, and defeated the Griffins by a 3-1 victory with an26-24 win in the fourth set. Morris recorded 23 digs in the match, while Brown totaled four kills, a solo block, a block assist, and a pair of digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University was determined to overcome Penn State York (4-3) by a 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-9) final in Thursday (Sept. 15) night's match as the Griffins feed off the Gwynedd faithful to come back from a 16-11 deficit in the first set (25-23) and recover from a 2-1 deficit with concluding wins of 25-23 and 15-9. Brown led the Griffins with 18 points on 17 kills and a pair of block assists, while Morris recorded a kill, two assists, an ace, and 19 digs.
The weekend's competition brought Gwynedd Mercy University to Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-5) for a tri-match that included Shorewomen of Washington College (6-3). Unfortunately, the Griffins left with a pair of losses as the Shorewomen ended their first competition by a 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 25-21, 25-11) score and the hosting Gators swept the later contest by a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 27-25) measure. Morris totaled two assists, an ace, and 32 digs versus Washington College, while Brown offered eight kills, an assist, three block assists, and six digs. In the later match, Morris recorded 20 digs and three aces versus the Gators. Brown totaled eight kills, an ace, a block assist, and a pair of digs.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Tuesday, September 20, when they visit Ursinus College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
