Greene Grabs Spot on AEC Women’s Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/12/2022) – This past Friday (Sept. 9), Gwynedd Mercy University toed the starting line at Stockton University for the five-kilometer races of the Osprey Memorial Invitational. There, seniors Thomas Balla (Trevose, Pa.) and Keely Greene (Philadelphia, Pa.) respectively paced the Griffins to an eighth place (8th of 10, 209 points) finish in men's race and a sixth place (6th of 9, 186) finish in the women's race. Greene was the first Griffin to cross the finish line in the former as she placed 47th with a time of 22:47.14. The performance earned her recognition on the Atlantic East Conference Women’s Cross Country Weekly Honor Roll.
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) (1st of 10, 20) won the men's race on the strength of a first-place finish (15:45.87) from senior Kevin Christensen (Bridgewater, N.J.), but the Lions were topped by the hosting Ospreys (1st of 9, 36) in women's race. Rowan University freshman Abigail Churchill (Oakland, N.J.) crossed the finish line first with a time of 19:36.99.
For the Griffins, Greene was followed closely by fellow senior Kristen Dougher (Philadelphia, Pa.), who completed her run a little more than a second later for 48th place (22:48.26). Their classmate, Alicia Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa.) ran 56th (23:33.49) with sophomore Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) (72nd, 26:14.50) and junior Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) (85th, 29:47.40) trailing behind.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Friday, September 23, when they travel to Ewing, New Jersey, for the TCNJ Invitational.
