Bernicker’s Big Week Draws AEC Honor Roll Recognition
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/25/2022) – Senior attack Anna Grace Bernicker (Merion Station, Pa.) totaled 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists), six ground balls, and three draw controls to lead Gwynedd Mercy University during this week’s competitions versus Marywood University (L, 13-14, 2OT on Apr. 20) and Cabrini University (L, 7-21 on Apr. 23). Her two-game performance placed her on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll.
Mirrored in regulation, Gwynedd Mercy University (8-8, 1-3) and Marywood University (4-7, 1-3) took to overtime knotted at 13-13 (0:58). There, a scoreless framed passed before the Pacers netted the game-winning-goal with four minutes remaining in the second overtime; 14-13 (4:00, 2OT). Senior defender Seydel Acuna (Philadelphia, Pa.) ensured the extra play with a touch-goal off the feed from Bernicker, who fueled the Griffins with team-highs in points (8; 5 goals, 3 assists) and ground balls (6). Her eight points matched a career-high, while her three assists and six ground balls set career-highs.
After being honored during Saturday’s Senior Day celebration, Bernicker's first two scores (12:07, 3:14) kept the Griffins right behind Cabrini University (9-6, 5-0) in the first quarter; 5-2 (3:05). Unfortunately, a 9-0 second quarter separated Cabrini University for a 14-2 (0:35) halftime advantage and propelled them to a 21-7 AEC win over the Griffins. Bernicker finished the affair with three goals and three draw controls.
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their AEC and regular season schedules on Wednesday, April 27, when they visit Marymount University for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
