Owens Earns Second AEC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Award, Pelczar Draws Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/18/2022) – Senior attack Laura Pelczar (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored three of her team-high seven goals in a pivotal third quarter and junior goalkeeper Reilly Owens (Pottstown, Pa.) made 14 saves while recovering five ground balls and causing a turnover in Gwynedd Mercy University’s 16-13 victory over Neumann University. Owens’ eighth win (8-6) of the season earned her, her second Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week title, while Pelczar garnered a mention on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Pelczar’s three tallies headlined a third quarter that saw Gwynedd Mercy University (8-6, 1-1) rally from an 8-6 halftime deficit to a 13-11 (0:07) advantage over Neumann University (6-6, 0-2). In the fourth quarter, Pelczar's seventh score, 14-11 (11:55) and unassisted scores from freshman attack Alysia Collins (Royersford, Pa.) (15-11, 9:32) and senior Meleah Hoats (Conyngham, Pa.) (16-13, 4:07) kept the Griffins out of harms' way in a 16-13 final. Owens made six of her 14 saves in the fourth quarter, doing her part to keep the Knights at a distance in the Griffins first conference win of the season.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the GMercyU Athletic Complex next Wednesday, April 20, when they host Marywood University for a 4:00 p.m. AEC contest.
