Campbell Collects AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll Acclaim
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/11/2022) – Senior catcher Nate Campbell (Royersford, Pa.) was 3-for-6 with two walks, a run, a run-batter-in (RBI), and a stolen base in a three-game set with Marywood University (Apr. 4 & Apr. 5) and recorded his first home run of the season on Gwynedd Mercy University’s 10-9 loss at Centenary University (Apr. 8) to earn an appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll. Campbell was 5-for-10 (.500) for the week with two walks, two runs, four RBI, and a stolen base.
Campbell was 1-for-3 in a 4-2 game-one win at Marywood University (14-5, 3-2). He singled to left in the top of the second inning, but Gwynedd Mercy University (9-15, 3-5) rallied for the win in the final two innings thanks to a game-tying ground ball from senior shortstop Rob Bailey (Abington, Pa.), 2-2, a game-winning sacrifice fly from senior third baseman Noah Andress (Levittown, Pa.), 3-2, and an insurance run on a two-out single from junior first baseman Nick Price (Levittown, Pa.); 4-2. Sophomore Frank Ebling (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (3-1) and first save of sophomore Mitchell Bramsway (Temecula, Calif.) (1). Campbell also drew a pinch-hit walk in the ninth inning of game two.
Gwynedd Mercy University walked off with Tuesday's (Apr. 5) game and the AEC season series versus Marywood University on a single through the left side of the Pacer infield from senior pitcher/designated hitter Billy Collins (Hatfield, Pa.) that plated sophomore center fielder Barry Walker (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) for the 4-3 Griffin victory. Campbell singled in Price in the second inning before leading off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field. He then stole second and soon after moved to third base on a ground ball to first base and scored on a Walker’s sacrifice fly that gave the Griffins the lead, 2-1. In a fitting end, Campbell led off the ninth inning with a walk and was relieved of his running duties by senior Jack Jamison (Fort Washington, Pa.), who stole second base and hustled home an out later on a well-bunted ball by Walker, 3-3. The at-bat continued with a single from senior second baseman Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.), a walk to senior right fielder T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.), and the Collins walk-off single.
Gwynedd Mercy University rallied to be within a run of Centenary University (10-11, 4-3) heading to the final frame of Friday’s AEC affair. Unfortunately, the Cyclones scored the insurance run they needed in the top of the ninth inning as a two-out Martell RBI left the Griffins a run shy in a 10-9 final. Campbell was 2-for-4; he knocked in two during a four-run Griffin third inning with his first home run of the season and singled in Bailey in the sixth inning.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues a busy AEC schedule today, Monday, April 11, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at the GMercyU Baseball Field.
