Shutout Versus Cannoneers Returns Roberto to AEC Men’s Soccer Honor Roll

Andrew Roberto (Churchville, Pa.) earned his second
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll recognition of the season after recording 18 saves in a 1-1 week of league play. The Griffins’ netminder, made eight saves in a shutout win against Pratt Institute (W, 2-0 on Oct. 8) and stopped another 10 shots in a 3-0 loss at Marymount University (Oct. 11).
Roberto was joined on the AEC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University senior midfielder Merlin Torres (Springfield, Va.) Neumann University senior goalkeeper A.J. Henry (Swedesboro, N.J.), Saint Elizabeth University sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Gonzalez (Elizabeth, N.J.), as well as Marywood University junior midfielder Jack Forbes (Wassaic, N.Y.) and freshman goalkeeper Ryan Schweigart (West Creek, N.J.). The AEC Player of the Week honor went to Neumann University junior forward Jordan Illian (Millsboro, Del.), while the Defensive Player of the Week award went to Marymount University senior goalkeeper Bayron Banegas (Springfield, Va.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (5-8, 1-2) capitalized on an impressive performance from senior forward
Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) in their 2-0 win over Pratt Institute (0-9-1, 0-2). The Griffin captain took a dozen (12) shots at the Cannoneer goal and found his mark just past the 25-minute mark; 1-0 (25:08). The Red and Gold continued to own the time of possession and it showed with a 27-23 shot advantage and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks; the overflow produced an insurance goal from freshman forward
Jackson Stuetz (Willow Grove, Pa.) just before the 80-minute mark; 2-0 (70:59). Roberto was everywhere the Griffins needed him to be as the Red and Gold goalkeeper totaled eight saves in his first shutout of the season.
Later in the week, Gwynedd Mercy University showed grit and determination despite falling to Marymount University (6-4-4, 2-0-1) by a 3-0 final. The Griffins' defensive unit and goalkeepers did all they could against a relentless Saint attack - 43-5 shot deficit - as Roberto (4-2) turned away 10 shots over the first 86 minutes (85:56) of play. Gwynedd Mercy University totaled 11 saves in all with freshman goalkeeper

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to AEC play on Saturday, October 18, when the Griffins celebrate Senior Day and host Neumann University for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
