Martell Merits AEC Baseball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/28/2022) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior infielder Jake Martell (Yardley, Pa.) was named to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Baseball Weekly Honor Roll after going 10-for-16 with four doubles, four runs-batted-in (RBI), and a pair of stolen bases (2-of-3) during the Griffins 2-2 showing versus Rosemont College (W, 9-4 and W, 20-0 on Feb. 23) and Hood College (L, 6-8 and L, 3-5 on Feb. 26). Gwynedd Mercy University’s lead-off batter recorded three of his four RBI with a base-clearing double in the sixth inning of an 8-6 game-one loss versus the Blazers. He finished that game 4-for-4 after going 6-of-9 versus the Ravens’ pitching staff.
Martell was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in Gwynedd Mercy University’s (3-2) 9-4 game-one win over Rosemont College (0-3). He backed up that effort with a 3-for-5 game-two performance that helped the Griffins to a 20-0 victory with a second double, four runs scored, and an RBI.
Three days later (Feb. 26), Gwynedd Mercy University owned a 6-5 lead after their sixth at-bat of game one and a 2-1 lead after their eighth at-bat of game two, 2-1, but were not able to come away with the win in either affair as Hood College (3-3) won both games of the twin bill by respective finals of 8-6 and 5-3. Martell was 4-for-4 with a three-run double in the fourth inning of game one. He drew two walk in game two and finished the second affair 0-for-3 with a run scored on a two-run home run from senior catcher T.J. Brasier (Levittown, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University plays next on Tuesday, March 1, when they meet the University of Valley Forge for a 2:00 p.m. contest at the James Ramp Recreation Center.
