Milestone Point, Two-Way Play Keeps Avellino on AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/21/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) remained on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll after recording two goals, an assist, five shots, a ground ball, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls in the Griffins’ 20-9 loss at Marywood University (Apr. 16). Her third point – and second goal of the game (19-9, 7:42, 4QTR) – was the 100th point of her collegiate career.
Marywood University junior midfielder Kaitlyn Smith (Merrick, N.Y.) AEC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while Marymount University senior goalkeeper Hannah Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) was named the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. Avellino was joined on the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll by Neumann University graduate midfielder Lindsey Fagan (Norwood, Pa.) and junior midfielder Krista Geibler (Morton, Pa.), Marywood University junior midfielder Avery Meighan (Floral Park, N.Y.), Marymount University graduate midfielder Bailey Gehler (San Diego, Calif.) and senior attack Taylor Chepren (Mercersburg, Pa.), as well as Immaculata University fifth-year midfielder Jacki Murray (Malvern, Pa.).
The Gwynedd Mercy University (4-12, 2-2) battled the Marywood University Pacers (9-6, 3-1) before getting away for the Easter Holiday. The Pacers scored first (12:26 Q1), but the Griffins went on an early hot-streak with two goals from sophomore attack Gianna Papa (Sterling, N.J.) (10:01, 07:22 1QTR) and a goal from Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) (2-1, 09:09, 1QTR). Avellino marked her first of three points needed to reach the century mark with an assist on the Gordon tally. She scored her first goal off a feed from senior attack Hailey Bloom (Margate City, N.J.) with 8:18 remaining in the second quarter and her second goal came with 7:42 left in the fourth, but in the end the Griffins could not keep up with the Pacers in a 20-9 conclusion
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their AEC and regular-season schedule on Wednesday, April 23, when they visit Marymount University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
