Avellino and Williams Warrant AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/7/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) and sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) were selected to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll for their significant contributions to a 15-4 league victory at Centenary University (N.J.) (Apr. 5). The Red and Gold captain scored seven goals on 15 shots, while recording a caused turnover, three ground balls, and six draw controls. Meanwhile, Williams earned her second win (2-4) of the season with four saves in the first three quarters (45:00) against the Cyclones.

The AEC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week went to Marymount University senior attack Riley Love (Leonardstown, Md.), while the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week title was given to her teammate, junior defender Peyton Samson (Reisterstown, Md.). Avellino and Williams were joined on the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll by Marywood University junior midfielder Kaitlyn Smith (Merrick, N.Y.) as well as Neumann University junior midfielder/attack Krista Geibler (Morton, Pa.) and graduate midfielder Lindsey Fagan (Norwood, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (3-10, 1-0) began conference play with a victory as they easily defeated Centenary University (N.J.) (4-4, 0-1) in Saturday’s 15-4 final. Avellino’s seven scores headlined the Griffins’ offensive outburst as the Red and Gold captain tallied twice in the first quarter (12:30, 7:28), twice in the second (14:06, 1:20), twice in the third (12:00, 7:58), and once in the fourth (10:48). She was 1-for-3 on her free position attempts and she scored four times on extra-player opportunities. Additionally, Avellino recorded a caused turnover, three ground balls, and six draw controls. Williams was equally impressive in goal; she stopped one shot in the first frame, but turned three Cyclone shots aside in both the second and third quarters to help the Griffins separate for victory.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, April 9, when they visit Immaculata University for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
