Cordero and Baumeister Earn AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll Appearances

Lancaster, Pa. – (3/31/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University fifth-years, utility fielder Shylynn Cordero (Allentown, Pa.) and pitcher/infielder Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) earned Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll appearances for their play during the Griffins recent 3-3 week against Penn State Abington (W, 5-4 (8)/L, 4-6 (6) on Mar. 26), Rutgers-Camden (W, 6-5/L, 2-5 on Mar. 27), and league rival Marywood University (L, 3-6/W, 8-7 on Mar. 29). Cordero reached second place on Gwynedd Mercy University’s all-time hits list with a 9-for-20 week that brought her career total to 157. Meanwhile, the Griffins won all three of Baumeister's starts (5 appearances); she allowed seven earned runs on 20 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 20 in 21.2 innings. Baumeister also went 6-for-21 (.286) with three runs and five runs-batted-in (RBI).

Immaculata University fifth-year shortstop/pitcher Jess Oldham (Wilmington, Del.) was named the AEC Softball Player of the Week, while Neumann University senior Olivia Ammon (Gap, Pa.) was named the AEC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Cordero and Baumeister were joined on the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (N.J.) senior infielder Madison Passanante (Bloomingdale, N.J.), Neumann University sophomore utility Alexis Palombi (Sicklerville, N.J.), as well as Marywood University freshman pitcher/outfielder Brianna Voyer (Mineola, N.Y.) and freshman catcher Riley Knott (South Abington Township, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University split all three of this week’s doubleheaders; the Griffins won their first game against the Abington Nittany Lions with an eighth-inning single from sophomore catcher Maya Hellyer (Quakertown, Pa.). Cordero singled in the first, fifth, and seventh innings; she scored in the first on a double to left field from junior shortstop Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) while Baumeister helped herself with a run-scoring ground out in the third inning (3-0). She struck out seven in her third win (3-5) of the season as she held Penn State to one earned run on five hits and five walks. The Nittany Lions won a daylight-shortened game two by a 6-4 (6 innings) measure. Cordero went 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI single in the fourth inning, while Baumeister threw 1.2 innings of relief after going 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.

The following day, Gwynedd Mercy University visited Rutgers-Camden for a twin bill. Again, the Griffins won the opener; this time, defeating the Scarlet Raptors with a 6-5 comeback. Down 4-0, Cordero walked and scored during a three-run fourth inning, 4-3, and then crossed for the tying run in the sixth inning; 5-5. She finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Baumeister collected her second win (4-5) of the week by holding Rutgers-Camden to an earned run on six hits and a walk. She struck out four over the final four frames.

The week of competition ended with Saturday’s AEC league opener with Marywood University. Gwynedd Mercy University lost game one; 6-3. Cordero singled in the fifth inning and Baumeister singled in the sixth; the latter scored following a couple walks and a sacrifice fly from senior left fielder Ally McDaid (Maple Glen, Pa.). In game two, the Griffins rallied for four seventh-inning runs in an 8-7 triumph. Cordero manufactured a run in the first inning with a bunt single and three wild pitches and started the Red and Gold’s seventh-inning rally with a one-out walk. Baumeister scored on a wild pitch in the second inning. Afterwards, she tripled home a pair of runs in the third inning and brought home another in the seventh with a misplayed ball at third. In the circle, Baumeister earned her third win of the week and evened her record on the year at 5-5. She held the Pacers to four earned runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out six.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Saturday, April 5, when they host the reigning league champions, Centenary University (N.J.) for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
