Clark Collects AEC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week Award

Lancaster, Pa. – (2/14/2022) – Sophomore guard Manny Clark (Pottsgrove, Pa.) recorded a block and six steals while averaging 8.0 points per game (PPG) and 4.3 rebounds per game (RPG) during Gwynedd Mercy University’s 2-1 of league play. The effort earned Clark his third appearance (Nov. 8, Dec. 6) on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Report and his first Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Gwynedd Mercy University (13-9, 5-5) got revenge for a 92-85 overtime loss (Jan. 31) to Centenary University (8-10, 2-6) with Monday (Feb. 7) night's 62-57 victory over the Cyclones. Senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) headlined the Griffin triumph with his fourth double-double of the season; 17 points and 10 rebounds, but Clark was a key contributor to the triumph as well with 11 points, nine rebounds, and a pair of steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University (13-8, 5-4) led by double digits early, 17-7 (12:40), and rallied late to secure a 29-25 (0:11) halftime lead in Wednesday (Feb. 9) night's AEC tussle with the Mighty Macs. In the second half, the Griffins took charge of what became a physical affair, pacing Immaculata University to a 55-50 (0:07) final. Big shots from senior guard Ty Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) (32-30, 16:48), Clark (36-32, 15:36), and graduate guard Matt O'Connor (Philadelphia, Pa.) (38-33, 14:24) kept Gwynedd Mercy University in the lead during key second-half transitions, but underneath graduate forward Donaven Spencer (Sicklerville, N.J.) carved out his fifth double-double of the season; 16 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Clark finished with 13 points, four rebounds, a block, and three steals.

Over the weekend, a slow start doomed Gwynedd Mercy University in Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon's AEC contest at Marymount University (13-8, 7-2). The Saints grabbed an 11-point, 15-4 (12:08), lead just eight minutes into the contest, led by 13 points (30-17, 0:52) at halftime, and gradually increased their position to 22 points by the final buzzer; 63-41 (0:43). Clark recorded his sixth steal of the week in the loss.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Monday, February 14, when they visit Immaculata University for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
