Avellino and Gordon Garner AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Lancaster, Pa. – (3/31/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore midfielder Rebecca Gordon (Sicklerville, N.J.) and senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) were selections to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll as the duo headlined the Red and Gold’s efforts in contests against the United Sates Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) (L, 2-18 on Mar. 26) and Albright College (L, 12-18 on Mar. 29). Gordon totaled seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) and seven shots against the Lions, while Avellino was the Griffins’ toughest competitor in both contests with four points (3 goals, 1 assist), nine shots, two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a dozen (12) draw controls in the aggregate.

Marymount University junior attack Tess Valentino (Baltimore, Md.) was named the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week went to Neumann University junior midfielder/attack Krista Geibler (Morton, Pa.). Gordon and Avellino were joined on the AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll. Immaculata University freshman defender Addison Yackel (Maple Shade, N.J.) and fifth-year midfielder Jacki Murray (Malvern, Pa.), Neumann University graduate midfielder Lindsey Fagan (Norwood, Pa.), Marymount University senior goalkeeper Hannah Smith (Wilmington, N.C.), and Marywood University senior defender Tori Wilson (Freehold, N.J.).

Gwynedd Mercy University had their issues against USMMA as the Mariners used 6-1 spreads in the first two quarters hand the Griffins their second straight 18-2 loss. Avellino and Gordon took one shot apiece; the former also tried to slow the Mariners with two caused turnovers and four draw controls.

Later in the week, the Red and Gold hosted Albright College. Gwynedd Mercy University faired better in this affair, but still fell on the short side of an 18-12 final. Gordon gave the Griffins an early 2-1 with her first two scores (14:32, 12:35) and she tied it at 3-3 with her third (7:35, 1QTR). Avellino scored the first of three extra-player goals to give the Griffins a 4-3 lead just seconds later (7:00), but a 9-0 Albright second quarter was the deciding factor in the fray. Gordon recorded career-highs in assists (3) and points (7), while Avellino was all over the field with three goals, an assist, eight shots, two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and a career-high eight draw controls.

Gwynedd Mercy University begins their 2025 AEC schedule this Saturday, April 5, when they visit Centenary University (N.J.) for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
