Dominant Double-Doubles Deliver Crossley’s Second AEC Player of the Week Title

Lancaster, Pa. – (2/7/2022) – Nearly matching double-doubles of 19 points and 18 rebounds, and 18 points and 18 rebounds in respective league victories over Neumann University (W, 78-61 on Feb. 2) and Cabrini University (W, 67-53 on Feb. 5) earned junior forward Haley Crossley (Warminster, Pa.) her second Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor. Crossley’s 10th and 11th double-double of the season are the latest performances in a four-game stretch of double-doubles for Crossley. The Griffin captain earned her first AEC Player of the Week award on January 17 and additional Weekly Honor Roll recognition on November 15, December 13, and January 31.

Gwynedd Mercy University (11-10, 5-3) used a 34-point fourth quarter to defeat Neumann University (8-12, 3-4) in Wednesday (Feb. 2) evening's AEC affair. The Griffins made five of their six fourth-quarter field goals (6-of-12, .500) from three-point range (5-of-8, .625) and scored 17 free throws (17-of-22, .773) in a 20-5 closing run that precipitated the 78-61 final. Crossley finished the contest with 19 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and five steals. She was 7-of-16 (.438) from the field, 3-of-4 (.750) from three-point range, and 2-of-4 (.500) from the charity stripe.

Crossley extended her most recent run of double-doubles to four games with 18 points and 18 rebounds in Saturday's (Feb. 5) 67-53 AEC victory over Cabrini University (10-10, 5-3). Gwynedd Mercy University established an early 10-4 (4:09) but allowed the Cavaliers to hang around until three successful free throws from Crossley (1:19), two more from Sharkey (0:52), and a three pointer from freshman guard Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) (0:52) propelled the Griffins to a 37-25 halftime lead. Gwynedd Mercy University extended their advantage to as many as 17 points (53-36, 0:31) in the closing seconds of the third quarter and never looked back as they closed out the Cavaliers by a 14-point final; 67-53 (0:16). Crossley scored nine of her 18 points with a perfect afternoon at the free throw line ((9-of-9, 1.000) and matched her season-high 18 rebounds while also contributing four assists, a block, and two steals to the Griffins' win.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Monday, February 7, when they visit Centenary University for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
