Summers Jr. and Mack Merit AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Mention

Lancaster, Pa. – (2/24/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore forward Travon Mack (Coatesville, Pa.) were both mentions of the final Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Weekly Honor Roll of the season. The duo helped lead the Griffins to a 1-1 week of league play versus Centenary University (N.J.) (L, 72-75 on Feb. 18) and Neumann University (W, 82-78 on Feb. 21); the former averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, a block, and a steal per game, while the latter contributed to the Red and Gold’s stingy interior defense against the Cyclones and Knights with seven rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.

Centenary University junior forward Justin Carbone (South Brunswick, N.J.) was named the AEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while the AEC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week title went to Marywood University junior forward Shilo Bivins (Hanover, Pa.). Summers and Mack were joined on the AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (N.Y.) sophomore guard Darnelle Forrest (Ewing, N.J.), Immaculata University senior guards John Proctor (Coatesville, Pa.) and Ryan Straub (Broomall, Pa.), Marymount University fifth-year guard Marcus Stubbs (Boyds, Md.) and junior guard Isaac Harris (Cherryville, Pa.), Neumann University junior forward Donte Dupriest (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior guard D.J. Earl (Middletown, Del.), Pratt Institute sophomore center Quinn McCormick (Tampa, Fla.), and Marywood University senior guard Brandon Franko (Wantage, N.J.).

Centenary University (N.J.) (11-14, 5-7) brought a five-game AEC winning streak to an end with a 75-72 Tuesday evening victory over Gwynedd Mercy University (21-4, 9-3). Senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) did all he could to keep the Red and Gold in contention, but an 8-of-15 (.533) showing at the free throw line and a 38-24 Cyclones rebounding advantage led to the upset. Summers was one of four Griffins in double figures as he totaled 12 points while grabbing six rebounds, making three assists, a block, and a steal. Mack finished the contest with three points, a rebound, an assist, and two steals.

Even though Neumann University (18-7, 9-3) held Summers to just two points in the first half, Gwynedd Mercy University still led the Knights at intermission; 39-33 (2:13). In the second half, Summers found his touch as he hit 9-of-11 (.818) from the field and both of his free throws (2-of-2, 1.000), while grabbing four rebounds, and providing two assists in an 82-78 (0:18) AEC regular-season finale. Summers finished with 23 points, but he was greatly supported by the first-half performances of Mack and senior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.). In the end, Mack contributed four points, six rebounds, two assists, four blocks, and a steal to an 82-78 season-finale victory over Neumann University.

As the #3 seed in the AEC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament, Gwynedd Mercy University will visit #2 Marymount University for a 6:00 p.m. semifinal on Wednesday, February 26.
