Johnson and Savage Score AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Justin Savage (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned recognition on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for their play in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I exhibition at Delaware State University (L, 54-70 on Nov. 12) and a 91-65 Battle of 309 victory over Arcadia University (Nov. 13). Johnson only had two rebounds and a steal against the Hornets, but he starred versus the Knights with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal. Meanwhile, Savage put his athleticism on display with 26 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, a block, and four steals between the two contests.
Marymount University swept the AEC Men’s Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Week awards as junior guards Isaac Harris (Cherryville, Pa.) and Miles Phillips (Chester, Va.) respectively garnered the titles. Johnson and Savage were joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (N.J.) sophomore guard Kenneth Rankin (Ewing, N.J.), Neumann University senior guard T.J. Lewis (Parkesburg, Pa.), Immaculata University sophomore guard Mandon Seapoe (Upper Darby, Pa.), Marywood University junior forward Shilo Bivins (Hanover, Pa.), and Pratt Institute junior guard Justin Caver (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (2-0) owned a promising 34-32 halftime lead over Delaware State University (1-2) in Tuesday evening's exhibition against the NCAA DI member. Unfortunately, the Hornets pedigree showed through in the second half as they held the Griffins to eight baskets (8-of-28, .286) and a pair for free throws (2-of-8, .250) in an eventual 70-54 conclusion. Three Griffins finished in double figures; Savage as chief among them with 15 points on 7-of-11 (.636) shooting performance. He also recorded eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
Gwynedd Mercy University gave Arcadia University (0-3) little room for error in Wednesday night's Battle of 309 as the Griffins assumed a 52-34 halftime perch before celebrating a 91-65 triumph over the Knights. The Red and Gold shot 60.0% (21-of-35) from the field and 87.5% (7-of-8) from the free throw line in the first half, while holding the Knights to a 33.3% (10-of-30) success rate from the floor and forcing them into nine turnovers. In the second half, Gwynedd Mercy University maxed their advantage at 36 points halfway through, 76-40 (10:12), and emptied the bench where it matched it just four minutes later; 87-51 (6:14). Johnson led five Griffins in double figures with his game-high 18 points. Savage was one of them; he finished the affair with 11 points, three rebounds, and three steals.
