Filchner Finds Way to AEC Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) scored on her only shot and provided an assist in the Griffins’ 4-3 loss to FDU-Florham (Oct. 2) to earn a spot on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll. It is her first AEC Weekly Report appearance of the season; her three-point performance brings her season total to a team-high 13 (5 goals, 3 assists).
The AEC Field Hockey Player of the Week title went to Marywood University graduate forward Cydney Lahr (Herndon, Pa.), while the Defensive Player of the Week honor was given to Manhattanville College sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Doherty (Claymont, Del.). Filchner was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University senior goalkeeper Julia Levase (Claymont, Del.).

Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) tipped Filchner’s penalty corner strike to give the Red and Gold a 2-1 lead just past the 10-minute mark (10:15). Unfortunately, the Devils responded with three goals (27:57, 46:42, 47:38), before Filchner found the back of the cage on a late feed from senior forward

Gwynedd Mercy University played their penultimate non-conference contest at Lebanon Valley College (9-1) on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon. The Dutchmen defeated the Red and Gold with a two goals in both the second (20:24, 29:00) and third (33:21, 44:55) quarters, as well as fifth in the fourth quarter; 5-0. The Griffins totaled three shots; Avellino took two and sophomore forward

Kelly Weaver (Flemington, N.J.) had her second straight performance of 10 saves or more with 11.
The Griffins return to the Athletic Complex on Wednesday, October 9, to host Penn State Harrisburg for their METAvivor Game; the contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
