Lawless Returns, Joined by Dodd on AEC Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/9/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior goalkeeper Morgan Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) and junior forward Emma Dodd (Philadelphia, Pa.) were recognized on the first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll for their play in a 1-1 week versus Delaware Valley University (L, 1-5 on Sept. 4) and Elmira College (W, 10-0 on Sept. 7). Lawless totaled six saves, including a five versus the Aggies and one in her shutout victory (2-2) against the Eagles. Meanwhile, Dodd scored her first three collegiate goals on her only three shots of the Griffins’ impressive road win.
 
Immaculata University freshman forward Alexis Andrada (Maple Shade, N.J.) repeated as the league’s Player of the Week, while Marywood University senior defender Corrin Hasty (South Berwick, Maine) was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week. Lawless and Dodd were joined on the Honor Roll by Marywood University junior midfielder Dariane Jones (Factoryville, Pa.) and Neumann University freshman forward Gabriella Cappelli (Phoenixville, Pa.).
 
Gwynedd Mercy University (2-2) visited Delaware Valley University (1-2) for Wednesday afternoon's affair. The Aggies controlled the contest, using a 20-4 shot advantage to fuel a 5-1 win. Junior midfielder Makenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) played spoiler for the Griffins, netting the Red and Gold's lone goal of the contest in the 52nd minute (5-1, 51:45). Lawless totaled five saves in the loss (1-2).
 
Dodd scored three times (14:58, 47:24, 56:25), Reed (24:55, 43:22) and sophomore forward Leany Santana (Wilmington, Del.) (22:19, 34:06) both scored twice, while senior midfielder Laura Filchner (Bath, Pa.) (18:38), senior midfielder Cheyenne Avellino (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) (44:59), and freshman forward Jillian McAleer (Stratford, N.J.) (46:14) tallied one each as Gwynedd Mercy University netted their highest goal-total since October 14, 2017 (W, 10-0 at Cedar Crest College) in Saturday's 10-0 triumph at Elmira College. The Griffins out-shot the Eagles 35-2 and Lawless (Bristol, Pa.) (2-2) earned her second shutout win of the season with a single save.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University welcomes Albright College to campus on Wednesday, September 11, when they host the Lions for a 4:00 p.m. home opener.
