Baumeister Returns to AEC Softball Weekly Report as Pitcher of the Week, Scally Scores Honor Roll Appearance
Â
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/2/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior/infielder
Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) returned
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Report as the league’s Pitcher of the Week. Meanwhile, senior third baseman
Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) joined her on the report as an AEC Weekly Honor Roll mention. The former went 1-1 while striking out 10 in outings versus Cabrini University (W, 5.0IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 2K on Mar. 25) and Rutgers-Camden (L, 6.0IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 8K), while the latter was 5-for-12 (.417) with two runs and six runs-batted-in (RBI) during the Griffins’ 1-3 week against the Cavaliers (L, 7-10/W, 12-1 (5)) and the Scarlet Raptors (L, 2-3/L, 0-1). Baumeister also went 2-for-9 (.222) with a run and two RBI at the plate. She was previously named to the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll on March 26.
Â
Opposite Baumeister, Cabrini University senior outfielder Ariana Mirenda (Reading, Pa.) was named the AEC Player of the Week. Scally was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University freshman pitcher Nadia Bhuiyan (Burlington, N.J.) and Marywood University sophomore third baseman/shortstop Tori Para (Pittston, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (7-11, 1-1) opened their AEC schedule with Monday's twin bill versus Cabrini University (4-7, 1-1). The Griffin bats woke up a little too late in a 10-7 game-one loss, but they stayed hot in game two as five runs in the second inning (6-1) and three runs in both the third (9-1) and fourth innings (12-1) provided plenty of coverage - 12-1 in five innings - for a winning effort (3-2) from Baumeister. Baumeister recorded a pair of strikeouts to move into third all-time on the Gwynedd Mercy University Softball Career Strikeouts list (168) and helped herself to the victory with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate that produced two runs and a run-batted-in (RBI). Scally was 4-for-6 (.667) in the twin bill with Cabrini University; she doubled in a pair of runs in the seventh inning of game-one (4-10) and cleared the bases with a double in the second inning of game two (6-0).
Â
A day later, Gwynedd Mercy University (7-11) traveled over the Delaware River to visit Rutgers-Camden for a doubleheader. After allowing the Griffins to score two runs in their first at-bat of the afternoon, the Scarlet Raptors silenced the Red and Gold bats in 3-2 and 1-0 finals. A single from Scally (1-0) and a sacrifice fly from sophomore shortstop
Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) (2-0) scored two Griffins in the first inning of game one. In game two, Baumeister (3-3) held up her end of the pitcher’s duel by allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out eight.
Â
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Sunday, April 7, they resume their AEC schedule with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at Marywood University.
