Lancaster, Pa. – (2/12/2024) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior guard
Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) made his third straight appearance on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 8.0 points (PPG), 5.0 rebounds (RPG), 3.5 assists (APG), 2.0 blocks (BPG), and 3.0 steals per game (SPG) in 1-1 week of league play versus Immaculata University (W, 90-64 on Feb. 7) and Marymount University (L, 59-74 on Feb. 10). Marable earned a spot on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll for the week’s ending January 28 and February 4 for his role during four consecutive conference wins.
Marable was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University freshman center C.J. Highsmith Jr. (Richmond, Va.) and senior guard Marcus Stubbs (Boyds, Md.), as well as Neumann University senior forward Jalen Vaughns (Tobyhanna, Pa.). Marywood University junior guard Brendan Franko (Wantage, N.J.) was named the AEC Player of the Week, while Immaculata University graduate forward Tyler Tillery (Baltimore, Md.) garnered the AEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Gwynedd Mercy University (15-9, 8-3) traveled to Immaculata University (11-11, 4-5) for Wednesday (Feb. 7) night’s AEC contest. The Griffins suffocated the Mighty Macs right off the tip and concluded the affair with a 26-point victory; 90-64. Senior guard
JoHaan Vinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-7 (.714) shooting in just 16 minutes of play, but Marable was the key component to the Red and Gold triumph with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks, three steals.
Over the weekend, Gwynedd Mercy University welcomed Marymount University (15-8, 8-2) to the Griffin Complex for Saturday’s (Feb. 10) final regular season home game. The Griffins took an early six-point, 13-7 (14:09), lead on a three pointer by senior guard
Aziz Parker (Westampton, N.J.), but ended up trailing the Saints at halftime, 35-31 (0:10). In the end, the Saints' second-half performance was too much for the Red and Gold to overcome as the visitor's left the Griffin Complex following a 74-59 AEC final. Parker hit five from long range (5-of-10, .500) and finished with a team-high 16 points, but Marable again played a crucial role with six points, five rebounds, two assists, a block, and three steals.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, February 14, when they visit Marywood University for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
