O’Neill Returns to AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (12/11/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior forward Natalie O’Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) made her second appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 11.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in wins over Albright College (W, 69-63 on Dec. 6) and Lancaster Bible College (W, 77-56 on Dec. 8). She was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (NJ) freshman forward Vatijah Davis (Poconos, Pa.) and Marywood University junior guard Faith Kendricks (Blakely, Pa.). Neumann University junior forward Lauren Klieber (Malvern, Pa.) was recognized as the AEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Defensive Player of the Week honors went to Immaculata University junior forward Abigail Lentowski (Covington Township, Pa.).

Gwynedd Mercy University (7-4) hosted Albright College (3-4) on Wednesday night for their final home game of the 2023 calendar year. The Griffins got off to a slow start, scoring only 24 points in the first half and trailing by as many as 12 points, 55-43 (0:27), in late in the third quarter. But, the fourth quarter was a different story as a 23-8 Griffin tilt pushed the Red and Gold to 69-63 comeback victory. With only 5.4 seconds remaining in the game and the Lions electing to intentionally foul the Griffins, senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) went to the free throw line and hit both free throws to give her a team-high 21 points for the game and exactly 1,000 points for her collegiate career. O’Neill recorded her second double-double of the season in the win with 12 points and 16 rebounds. She also recorded an assist and two steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University traveled to Lancaster Bible College (1-8) on Friday night looking to pick up their first road win of the 2023-2024 season. The Griffins built a 35-25 halftime lead, but the Chargers cut the advantage to just two points, 46-44 (2:27, 3QTR), before the Red and Gold sealed a 77-56 victory with a 27-10 fourth quarter. Like she has been doing all year, junior guard Alexis Eagan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) provided that spark off the Griffin bench as she finished the contest with her first collegiate double-double thanks to career-highs with in points (20) and rebounds (11). She hit four three-point baskets (4-of-6, .667) in a 6-of-10 (.600) shooting performance that came with four free throws (4-of-4, 1.000) and two steals. O’Neill finished the victory with 11 points, eight rebounds, a block, and two steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University continues its current three-game road trip on Saturday, December 16, when they visit William Paterson University for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
