Owens Returns to AEC Women’s Basketball Report as Honor Roll Mention
Lancaster, Pa. – (11/29/2021) – Junior guard Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) hit 5-of-9 (.556) from long range and finished with 19 points in to keep Gwynedd Mercy University in Monday night's (Nov. 22) 71-64 loss at Misericordia University. She added two rebounds and two steals to her scoring. For her efforts, she was recognized on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. This is Owens’ second appearance on the AEC Weekly Report as she garnered the AEC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on November 15.
Misericordia University (3-2) overcame an early Gwynedd Mercy University (3-4) lead, 8-2 (7:20), to own a 24-21 first-quarter advantage. A low scoring second quarter left the home team ahead 30-25 at halftime. After intermission, Misericordia University remained at arm's length as they led 50-43 (0:00) at the end of the third quarter and by as many as 10 points, 55-45 (7:51) in the fourth quarter before the final settled on a seven-point spread. Gwynedd Mercy University hit a dozen (12-of-37, .324) from long range in all and forced 24 Cougar turnovers, but Misericordia University owned a 67-57 advantage on the glass and made more of their opportunities from the floor (25-of-71, .352) and the free throw line (13-of-20, .650).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Tuesday, November 30, when they host Penn State Berks for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
