Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll appearance with 34 digs, two kills, and two assists against the Pacers. Pugh was joined on the AEC Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University graduate outside hitter Kaitlyn Doyle (Hernando, Miss.) as well as Neumann University senior pin hitter Regan Hickey (Aston, Pa.) and junior setter Dani Smith (Morinville, Alberta). Centenary University (NJ) freshman outside hitter Poppy Skjonnemand (Southampton, U.K.) was named the AEC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week, while Marymount University graduate setter Kaitlyn Doyle (Woodbridge, Va.) garnered the AEC Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
After suffering a 25-13 loss in the opening set, Gwynedd Mercy University (8-9, 2-1) rattled off wins of 25-17, 25-10 and 25-21 to defeat Marywood University (6-15, 0-1) by a 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-21) final in Wednesday night's AEC match. The Pacers used two early runs to jump out to a 13-4 lead in the first set. They eventually padded their position to 20-7 before taking the frame 25-13. The Griffins separated from the early back-and-forth of the second set with six straight points on the serve of freshman defensive specialist
Danika Lewis (Coopersburg, Pa.), 8-4, and gradually grew the difference to 20-12 before a 25-17 end. Gwynedd Mercy University broke from the stalemate on the authority of a 25-10 third-set win and concluded the match by scoring five of the last six points in a 25-21 fourth-set finish. Pugh led four Griffins in double-digit digs with her career-high 34.
Gwynedd Mercy University breaks from their AEC season to visit Widener University for a 7:00 p.m. match on Thursday, October 19.
