Wallace’s Clutch Scores Secure AEC Weekly Honor Roll Selection
Lancaster, Pa. – (9/26/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior midfielder
Kasey Wallace (Audubon, N.J.) scored a goal in both games of a 1-0-1 week to earn recognition on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll. His first tally of the week served as the game-winner (2-0, 46:23) in the Griffins’ 4-1 triumph at Clarks Summit University (Sept. 18), while his second goal (1-1, 55:29) tied a 1-1 final at McDaniel College (Sept. 20). Marymount University junior Leonardo Torres (Manassas, Va.) and fifth-year Carlos Varona (Miami, Fla.) were respectively honored as the Player and Defensive Players of the Week. Neumann University sophomore Jason DeFillippo (Galloway, N.J.) joined Wallace on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-3-2) earned their first win of the year with a strong performance against Clarks Summit University (1-4-1); 4-1. Sophomore forward
Braedon Kehan (Warrington, Pa.) was all over the field for the Griffins as he finished with a game-high ten shots, a goal, and two assists. He found Wallace with his first helper, which resulted in the eventual game-winning goal. Later in the second half, the Griffins got insurance tallies from senior midfielder
Mike Fienman (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3-1, 69:46) and graduate forward
Evan Kirby (Bensalem, Pa.) (4-1, 73:30). Graduate captain goalkeeper
John Wagner (Phoenixville, Pa.) (1-0) played all 90 minutes in the net for Gwynedd Mercy University and finished with a save.
Two days later, the Griffins traveled to McDaniel College (3-0-4) to take on the Green Terror. An early goal gave McDaniel College the early 1-0 lead, but just a little over ten minutes into the second half Wallace buried his third of the year (1-1, 55:29) to knot the affair at 1-1 and finish the week with four points (2 goals) and five shots. Wagner again played all 90 minutes and made two saves in the tie (1-1-1).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Saturday, September 30, when they open their AEC schedule with a 2:00 p.m. contest at Marymount University.
