Varilla and Owens Earn AEC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Kristin Varilla (Lansdale, Pa.) both earned recognition on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll for their play in the Griffins’ 17-1 victory over Centenary University. Varilla tied her season-high with eight points (3 goals, 5

assists), recorded a draw control, and caused two turnovers while Owens recorded her 500
th career save and first collegiate goal in the win (5-10)
Gwynedd Mercy University (5-10, 1-4) earned their first AEC victory of the season as they took down Centenary University (NJ) (0-11, 0-5) by a 17-1 final in Wednesday (Apr. 19) afternoon’s contest. Owens kept the Cyclones scoreless while recording her 500th career save with her second stop (8:43 2QTR) of the first half. She entered the game later as a field player and finished the affair as one of five Griffins who recorded their first collegiate goals; freshman attack

Devyn Becker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) (12-0, 7:26 2QTR), junior defender
Grace Cooney (Doylestown, Pa.) (14-0, 14:30 3QTR), and freshman midfielder
Ayana Lyons (Norristown, Pa.) (15-0, 9:45 3QTR) all recorded scores before Owens gave the Griffins a 16-0 advantage with 1:50 remaining in the third quarter. She finished the contest with one point, three saves, and a ground ball.
Gwynedd Mercy University conclude their AEC and regular season schedules on Wednesday, April 26, when they host Cabrini University for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
