Scally Earns Third Appearance on AEC Softball Weekly Report
Lancaster, Pa. – (4/17/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior third baseman Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) totaled three hits (3-for-4) in the Griffins’ twin bill at Widener University with a double and a run scored in the opener, and a single in her first at-bat of game two. She also pitched the final two innings of latter, holding the Pride off the basepaths for the final six outs of the contest. Her performance in the doubleheader earned her a third appearance on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Report (Apr. 17) as she garnered the league’s Player of the Week title on March 13 and an Honor Roll mention on April 3.
Gwynedd Mercy University (15-9, 3-3) scored their only run of the opener in the second inning, where a leadoff double from Scally resulted in a run after a groundout to short from senior center fielder Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) and a groundout to first base from sophomore right fielder Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.). Unfortunately, Widener University (12-14) tied the contest with a run in the sixth inning (1-1) and won it with a run in the eighth. Scally picked up her second hit of the contest with a single to right field in the seventh inning.
Scally singled in her first at-bat of game two, but she was left stranded at third. She also walked in the third inning before taking the circle for Widener University’s final six outs of the contest.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, April 19, when they host Marywood University for a 3:00 p.m. AEC/Senior Day doubleheader.
