McDaid Draws AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

Lancaster, Pa. – (4/11/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University sophomore Ally McDaid (Maple Glen, Pa.) did her part to help the Griffins to doubleheader sweeps of the University of Valley Forge (W, 8-0 (5) and W, 3-0 on Apr. 3) and league rival, Immaculata University (W, 8-5 and W, 5-2 on Apr. 5) last week. The Griffin left fielder went 6-for-10 with a walk, two runs, and two runs-batted-in (RBI) against the Patriots and Mighty Macs to earn a spot on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll.

McDaid was 1-for-3 with a run in the first game against the University of Valley Forge (7-8). Her third-inning single was the second of nine in the inning as Gwynedd Mercy University (15-7, 3-3) used a six-run inning to distance themselves from the Patriots in an eventual 8-0, five-inning final.

McDaid led off the second game versus the University of Valley Forge and went 2-for-4 with a run. She reached on a Patriot error in her first at-bat, but was thrown out at home on a ball to the shortstop. Gwynedd Mercy University made use of her leadoff single in the third inning as she promptly stole second base and scored on a two-out single to left field from senior centerfielder Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.). McDaid also singled down the left field line in the fourth inning of the 3-0 final.

McDaid was back in action in the second game of Gwynedd Mercy University’s AEC twin bill at Immaculata University (8-11, 1-4). She went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in the 5-2 victory; she was one of two Griffins to get thrown out at home after recording first-inning singles, she also knocked in two runs with a two-out single to right field in the second inning, singled to centerfield in the fourth inning, and walked in the sixth inning.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Wednesday, April 12, when they briefly break from their AEC schedule for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Widener University.
