Lancaster, Pa. – (3/13/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University provided the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Player of the Week for the second straight report as junior infielder/pitcher
Grace Scally (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered the title with a .688 (11-for-16)/1.063/.632 (AVG/SLG/OBP) slash line in the Griffins’ 5-1 closing stretch at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Junior pitcher/second baseman
Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) swept the AEC Softball Weekly Honors on the March-6 report.

Gwynedd Mercy University went 7-1 on their trip to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic and closed the week of competition with a 5-1 stretch that included wins over New Jersey City University (NJCU) (W, 17-3 (5) on Mar. 7), Lancaster Bible College (W, 8-7 on Mar. 7), Sweet Briar College (W, 7-3 on Mar. 8), Elms College (W, 9-4 on Mar. 8), and Clarks Summit University (W, 14-10 on Mar. 9). Scally headlined a potent Gwynedd Mercy University offense with five runs scored and nine runs-batted-in (RBI) over the six-game stretch; she scored a run and knocked in at least one run in each contest thanks to five extra-base hits (4 2B, 3B).
Scally opened the week with a 3-for-3 day against Lancaster Bible College that plated a run and supported her own four-inning start (4.0 IP, 4H, 3R, ER, BB, 3K). Scally followed that effort with a 2-for-3 performance versus Sweet Briar College. She doubled home junior
Ashley Focht (Harrisburg, Pa.) and scored in the first inning then sacrificed senior
Emma Carney (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) home in the second inning with a fly to centerfield. Later that day, Scally went 1-for-2 against Elms College, singling one run and scoring a second in the fifth inning before providing a sixth-inning sacrifice fly. She went 5-for-8 and knocked in a pair of runs in the Griffins’ final two contests at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic; Scally was 2-for-3 versus Delaware Valley University and 3-for-5 against Clarks Summit University.
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to action on Friday, March 17, when they visit Rosemont College for a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader.
