Baumeister Sweeps AEC Softball Weekly Awards
Lancaster, Pa. – (3/6/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior
Jocelyn Baumeister (Willow Grove, Pa.) swept this week’s
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball awards, garnering the AEC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for her play in a Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic
win over Bridgewater State University (W, 7-0 on Mar. 5). The Griffins’ ace went the full seven versus the Bears, earning the win (1-0, 7.0 IP, 2H, BB, 6K) while going 2-for-3 with a run and four runs-batted-in (RBI).
Baumeister singled in a pair of runs in the first Gwynedd Mercy University (2-0) at-bat of the season with a liner to centerfield; 2-0. She helped herself again in the fifth inning with a double through the left side that gave the Griffins a 4-0 edge over Bridgewater State University (1-1). Sophomore right fielder
Carly Maw (Bensalem, Pa.) then knocked Baumeister in with a double down the right field line, 5-0, and a Bear error let the difference slip to 7-0 before the inning ended. Baumeister took care of the rest from the circle as she faced three more than the minimum in the seven-inning affair; she struck out six in the win (1-0).
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Wednesday, March 7 with respective 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. contests versus New Jersey City University and Lancaster Bible College.
