Crossley Collects Third Defensive Player of the Week, Sylvester Scores AEC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition
 
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/20/2023) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior forward Haley Crossley (Philadelphia, Pa.) closed out the 2022-2023 regular season on a high note, earning her third Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honor for AEC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week (2/20/2023) - Haley Crossleyher play in league wins over Centenary University (NJ) (W, 83-52 on Feb. 15) and Cabrini University (W, 82-68 on Feb. 18). She was joined on the league’s weekly report by senior guard Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.), who made her third straight appearance on the report with an Honor Roll recognition.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University (15-10, 8-4) hosted their final home game of the regular season against Centenary University (New. Jersey) (9-15, 0-11). The Griffins dominated the first half as they held the Cyclones to six points in each of the first two quarters; 39-12. In the second half, the Griffins had more than enough insurance to keep Centenary University at bay in an 83-52 final. Sylvester finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-16 (.563) shooting. She also recorded four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Meanwhile, Crossley ran the offense from the paint with six assists in excess of a team-high eight rebounds, a block, and two steals.
 
AEC Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll (2/20/2023) - Elise SylvesterThree days later (Feb. 18), the Griffins secured the #2 seed in the 2022-2023 AEC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament with an 82-68 victory at Cabrini University. After a tightly played first quarter (17-14, 0:14), Gwynedd Mercy University took control of the affair midway through the second frame - 21-20 (8:23) – and never relinquished the lead. Sylvester scored the 1,00th point of her collegiate career with the final bucket of the first half and she finished the contest with a career-high 32 points. She hit three threes (3-of-6, .500) in an 8-of-18 (.444) shooting performance that came with 13 free throws (13-of-16, .813), five rebounds, and an assist. Crossley hit five field goals (5-of-14, .357) and six free throws (6-of-10, .600) to total 16 points. She paired it with 15 rebounds, an assist, and four steals.

Sylvester averaged 29.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while totaling five assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Crossley averaged 15.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game on top of seven assists, a block, and six steals. The former has appeared on four AEC Weekly Reports; twice garnering the Offensive Player of the Week honor and twice earning Honor Roll recognition. The latter has made six AEC Weekly Reports with three Defensive Player of the Week honors, two Offensive Player of the Week honors, and one Honor Roll appearance.
 
Gwynedd Mercy University is awaiting the outcome of today’s AEC Quarterfinals for their home semifinal contest on Wednesday, February 22 (7:00 p.m.).
