Sylvester Joins Sharkey On Latest AEC Weekly Honor Roll
Lancaster, Pa. – (2/6/2023) – Senior guard
Elise Sylvester (Pottstown, Pa.) joined senior forward
Cayla Sharkey (Lansdale, Pa.) on the most recent
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll. The duo helped Gwynedd Mercy University rally in last week’s 64-

59 league loss to Marymount University (Feb. 6); the former scored a team-high 23 points in excess of four rebounds and three steals, while the latter totaled four points, seven rebounds, an six blocks.
Gwynedd Mercy University (11-10, 4-4) used a 25-15 fourth-quarter advantage to close the gap in an eventual 64-59 loss to AEC leader Marymount University (17-4, 7-1). The Saints overcame the Griffins' early 4-0 (7:42) lead and kept a short distance through most of the first quarter, 17-11 (0:03). They used a superior shooting performance - 44.8 (26-of-58) - .293 (17-of-58) - and a 55-24 rebounding advantage to expand their lead to as many as 18 points, 47-29 (1:51 3QTR), before a late three-point basket from senior guard
Kelly Owens (Schwenksville, Pa.) (64-54, 0:17 4QTR) and an even later five points from Sylvester trimmed the Marymount University margin of victory to five points.

Sylvester hit a pair of threes (2-of-5, .400) in a 6-of-14 (.429) shooting effort that was accompanied by nine free throws (9-of-10, .900), four rebounds, and three steals. This is her second appearance on the AEC Women’s Basketball Weekly Report after garnering the Offensive Player of the Week honors on January 17. Meanwhile, all seven of Sharkey’s rebounds came on the defensive glass. This is her third honor roll appearance (Dec. 12, Jan. 30, Feb. 6) and fifth weekly report appearance overall with Defensive Player of the Week awards coming on November 21 and December 19.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their AEC schedule on Wednesday, February 8, when they visit Marywood University for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
