Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Celebrates 2025-2026 with Annual Senior Awards Banquet

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (5/11/2026) – As another year of outstanding achievement, great competition, determined skill development, and treasured team bonding came to a close, the senior student-athletes of Gwynedd Mercy University gathered in the Griffin Complex this evening, Monday, May 11, with the athletics staff, their coaches, their families, and esteemed members of the University administration for the 2025-2026 Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Senior Awards Banquet. D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) of the men's basketball team was recognized as the Gwynedd Mercy University Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year, while Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) of the women's volleyball team was honored with the Gwynedd Mercy University Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year. Presented annually to a graduating business major with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), the Donahue-Elliott Senior Scholar Award, was given to Hagan Meyer (Warrington, Pa.) of the men's soccer team.
 
Prior to a delicious buffet of salad, green beans, pasta, and chicken parmesan, Gwynedd Mercy University President Deanne Horner D'Emilio, JD, came to the stage for words of reflection and recognition for the present senior student-athletes. Director of Athletic Keith Mondillo followed the meal, graciously recognizing the administration in attendance before turning the microphone over to the Griffin Head Coaches for their senior student-athlete recognition.

Following the athletic training staffs' presentation of the Golden Tape Award – bestowed annually to a senior student-athlete who overcomes significant injury and returns to field/court – to women's soccer senior Natalie Morris (Boyertown, Pa.), Mondillo returned to the stage at the end of the evening to recognize Meyer, Johnson, and Pugh.

2025-2026 Golden Tape Award: Natalie Morris (Women's Soccer)After transfer from Cabrini University, Morris battled various injuries to make 27 starts over the course of 35 collegiate games in the Red and Gold. She totaled 29 points with seven assists and 11 goals on 71 shots. She recorded three game-winning goals (GWG) during her junior season (2024) and garnered an All-AEC Second Team laurel at season's end.
 
Academically, Morris is a three-time member of the Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite (Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Fall 2025) and the AEC All-Academic Team (2021-2022, 2023-2024, 2024-2025). The early education and special education major was selected to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Academic All-District Team and the 2024 Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) Fall Academic Honor Roll.
 
2025-2026 Donahue-Elliott Award: Hagan Meyer (Men's Soccer)Finance major, Meyer sports a 3.96 GPA. Since transferring to Gwynedd Mercy University for the 2023 season, he has been a five-time member of the Athletics Academic Elite (Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Fall 2025), a two-time member of the AEC All-Academic Team (2023-2024, 2024-2025), a 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Academic All-District Team selection, and a 2024-2025 Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) Fall Academic Honor Roll selection.
 
Meyer started in 23 of the 39 games in which he appeared for the Red and Gold. He totaled two points as a Griffin with his only collegiate goal (4-2, 70:37) coming in the 71st minute of a loss to Arcadia University (L, 2-6 on Oct. 2) during his junior season (2024). He finished his collegiate career with 35 shots (18 on-goal).
 
Johnson 2025-2026 GMercyU Athletics Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year: D.J. Johnson (Men's Basketball)made good on a 2022-2023 AEC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year and 2022-2023 City of Basketball Love (COBL) Division III All-Rookie Team Honorable Mention with an All-AEC First Team selection and an AEC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year honor in 2025-2026. The two-year captain (2024-2025, 2025-2026), he led Gwynedd Mercy University to an appearance in the 2025-2026 AEC Men's Basketball Championship with 13.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while totaling 86 assist (3.3/game), 67 steals (2.6/game), and nine blocks (0.3/game). He earned three Defensive Player of the Week awards (Nov. 10, Jan. 12., Feb. 16) and five Weekly Honor Roll appearances (Dec. 15, Jan. 5, Jan. 26, Feb. 9, Feb. 23) while ranking as the AEC league leader in steals (1st, 67) and steals per game (1st, 2.6 SPG). He also ranked among the AEC Top-10 in FT% (2nd, .780; 85-of-109), assist to turnover ratio (2nd, 2.2), assists (3rd, 86), assists per game (3rd, 3.3 APG), rebounds (5th, 152), defensive rebounds (6th, 115), free throws made (7th, 84), points (8th, 342), points per game (8th, 13.7 PPG), and rebounds per game (T10th, 5.8 RPG).
 
Johnson finished his collegiate career with 84 starts in 106 contests. He shot 49.5% (304-of-614) from the field, 30.6% (67-of-219) from three-point range, and 76.7% (211-of-275) from the free throw line to total 886 (8.4/game) points. Johnson also totaled 436 (4.1/game) rebounds, 271 (2.6/game) assists, 26 blocks, and 208 steals – which ranks second all-time in program history.
 
A finance major, Johnson is a two-time member of the AEC All-Academic Team (2023-2024, 2024-2025) and a member of the Fall 2024, Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite.
 
2025-2026 GMercyU Athletics Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year: Charlotte Pugh (Women's Volleyball)A two-year captain (2024, 2025), Pugh ranked among the 2025 AEC Top-10 in both digs (8th, 307) and kills (9th, 271). She recorded the 1,000th dig of her collegiate career during a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17) loss at Marywood University (Oct. 11) and made two appearances on the AEC Women's Volleyball Weekly Report with an Honor Roll mention on September 16 and the Player of the Week title on November 10. Pugh garnered All-AEC Second Team honors in 2025 and she finished the season with 301.0 points (271 kills, 13 aces, 7 solo blocks, 20 block assists, 45 assists, and 307 digs.
 
Pugh finished her collegiate career with 538 (1.46/set) kills, 173 (0.47/set) assists, 60 (0.16/set) aces, 1,160 (3.14/set) digs, 77 (0.21/set) total blocks, and 642.5 (1.74/set) points. All-time, she ranks 10th in kills, fifth in aces, and fourth in digs.
 
Academically, Pugh is a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA DIII Women's Volleyball Academic All-District Team (2024, 2025). She is a three-time member of the AEC All-Academic Team (2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025), a six-time member of the Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics Academic Elite (F2022, S2023, F2023, S2024, F2024, S2025), and she earned recognition on the 2024-2025 EAST-COMM Fall Academic Honor Roll.
