Lancaster, Pa. – (3/23/2026) – Gwynedd Mercy University junior third baseman
Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) earned a spot on the
Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll for her play in doubleheaders with Haverford College (L, 1-11 (5)/L, 0-8 (5) on Mar. 19) and league rival, Marymount University (L, 1-11 (5)/L, 6-8 on Mar. 21). Cohen was 4-for-10 for the week, including a 3-for-4, three runs-batted-in (RBI) effort in the second game of the twin bill with the Saints.
Cohen was joined on the AEC Softball Weekly Honor Roll by Marymount University junior catcher Haley Greer (Alexandria, Va.), Marywood University freshman catcher Arianna Shellman (Medford, N.Y.), Neumann University freshman catcher/infielder Ellie Zarnawski (Cinnaminson, N.J.), and Saint Elizabeth University senior pitcher Kami Degaetani (Nanuet, N.Y.). The AEC Softball Player of the Week award went to Saint Elizabeth University senior outfielder Isabella Hanos (Monroe, N.J.), while the AEC Softball Pitcher of the Week award went to Marymount University senior pitcher/outfielder Bailey Demusz (Doylestown, Pa.).
Gwynedd Mercy University (3-10, 0-2) found their first competition since returning from the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with Thursday's doubleheader at Haverford College. The Fords gave the Griffins trouble in both ends of the twin bill, holding the Red and Gold to two hits in each and just eight total base runners between the two, five-inning affairs; 11-1 (5) and 8-0 (5). In the opener, Cohen (1-for-2) and freshman center fielder
Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) (1-for-2) doubled in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. The latter scored the only Gwynedd Mercy University run of the afternoon with a hustle home on a two-out wild pitch (11-1). Cohen's double came with two out in the fourth inning, but she was stranded with a line-out to first base. In the nightcap, a pair of third-inning walks and a wild pitch presented the Griffins with their best opportunity to score.
Gwynedd Mercy University welcomed Marymount University (Va.) (8-8, 2-0) to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field for Saturday afternoon's AEC doubleheader. The Griffins lost both ends of the twin bill; 11-1 (5) and 8-6. Junior first base
Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) accounted for the Red and Gold's lone hit of the first game while freshman outfielder
Stephanie Jones (Hatboro, Pa.) scored the Griffins' only run on a sacrifice fly from freshman infielder
Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.). The second game was a different story as Gwynedd Mercy University owned a 6-0 lead before the Saints stole the sweep with eight runs evenly split between the sixth (6-4) and seventh (8-6) innings.
Gwynedd Mercy University got a 6-0 head start with two runs in the first (2-0), third (4-0), and fourth (6-0) innings. Cohen (3-for-4) powered the offense with a pair of extra-base hits; she knocked in two with a double in the bottom of the third inning and she tripled to right center in the fourth. In the first inning, a rash of Red and Gold singles loaded the bases and brought home a run on Cohen's first hit; 1-0. After, a ground out from freshman catcher
Ashlyn Merz (Bensalem, Pa.) the Griffins owned a 2-0 advantage. In the third inning, Cohen doubled in a pair of runs (4-0), while in the fourth inning a pair of lead-off singles led to runs scored on back-to-back ground outs from Harrold (5-0) and senior shortstop
Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) (6-0).
Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the diamond at Legends Field on Tuesday, March 24, when they host Penn State Berks for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
