Little River, S.C. - (3/12/2026) - Senior shortstop
Hannah Smith (Levittown, Pa.) plated three seventh-inning runs with a triple, but the late Gwynedd Mercy University (2-6) rally fell short of its mark in a 7-5 loss to Lycoming College (2-2). Later in their fourth day of competition at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, the Griffins slugged it out with Vermont State Castleton (1-0). The Griffins scored four runs in the fifth inning (5-1) and three runs in the sixth inning (8-8), but in the end their pace was outdone in a 12-8 final. Smith finished the afternoon 3-for-7 with two walks, a run, and her three runs-batted-in (RBI).
Griffin Highlights vs. Lycoming College
- A one-out double to left from freshman designated player Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.) and a two-out single through the box from junior third baseman Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) set the table for junior first baseman Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) in the top of the first. She came through with single to right field; 2-0.
- Gwynedd Mercy University was never really able to get anything going until Smith connected for her two-out, bases loaded triple in the seventh.
- Smith was 2-for-4, Kehoe was 2-for-3, and freshman center fielder Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) was 2-for-3.
- Freshman Mckenzie Price (Hatfield, Pa.) offered some solid relief in the circle; she allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out one Warrior in 4.1 innings.
Griffin Highlights vs. Vermont State Castleton
- Harrold and Smith got the Griffins going in the first inning as back-to-back singles led to a run with a bean ball and a walk to freshman left fielder Sierra Miller (Telford, Pa.) doing the job.
- The Red and Gold took a 5-1 lead in the fifth with four runs in the top of the frame; walks to Smith and freshman third baseman Ashlyn Merz (Bensalem, Pa.), and a one-out double down the left field line from sophomore catcher Makayla Mihelcic (Souderton, Pa.) scored the first two runs, while single from freshman designated player/pitcher Rylie O'Toole (Southampton, Pa.) and a long fly ball to center field from sophomore first baseman Nylah Beauchamps (Philadelphia, Pa.) accounted for the other two.
- In the sixth inning, Harrold was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a wild pitch before a Smith walk and a Merz hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. Two strikeouts later, O'Toole helped herself with two-run single through the right side as a Spartan error allowed the Griffins to even the score at 8-8.
- O'Toole (2-for-3) was the only Griffin with multiple hits. Smith was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run.
Gwynedd Mercy University concludes their time at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic tomorrow, Friday, March 13, with a 11:00 a.m. first pitch scheduled versus Cairn University.
