Haverford, Pa. - (3/19/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy University (3-8) found their first competition since returning from the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with today's doubleheader at Haverford College. The Fords gave the Griffins trouble in both ends of the twin bill, holding the Red and Gold to two hits in each and just eight total base runners between the two, five-inning affairs; 11-1 (5) and 8-0 (5). In the opener, junior
Hannah Cohen (North Wales, Pa.) (1-for-2) and freshman center fielder
Nya Brown (Whitehall, Pa.) (1-for-2) doubled in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. The latter scored the only Gwynedd Mercy University run of the afternoon with a hustle home on a two-out wild pitch (11-1). In the nightcap, a pair of third-inning walks and a wild pitch presented the Griffins with their best opportunity to score.
Griffin Highlights - Game 1
- Junior first baseman Kassidy Kehoe (Lansdale, Pa.) led off the game with a walk. She moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt from freshman second baseman Macey Harrold (West Deptford, N.J.), but did not advance any farther as inning ended with a fly to right field and a liner to third base.
- Cohen's double came with two out in the fourth inning, but she was stranded with a line-out to first base.
- Brown manufactured her own run, moving to third on a ground out and scoring when the first pitch to freshman left fielder Sierra Miller (Telford, Pa.) went array.
Griffin Highlights - Game 2
- Freshman catcher Ashlyn Merz (Bensalem, Pa.) led off the second inning with a walk. She was replaced on the bases with a fielder's choice from freshman center fielder Giavanna Kanaris (New Egypt, N.J.), who made it to third base - but no further - after a walk to junior second baseman Jess Kepner (Pipersville, Pa.), a wild pitch, a strikeout, and a ground out to the Ford pitcher.
- Smith (1-for-2) reached on an error in the first inning and she singled in the third.
- In addition to the second-inning fielder's choice, Kanaris (1-for-2) singled in the fourth inning.
Gwynedd Mercy University hosts their home opener and begins their Atlantic East Conference (AEC) season schedule on Saturday, March 21, when they welcome Marymount University to Frank O. Genuardi Legends Softball Field.
