Kressler Named AEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Lancaster, Pa. – (3/23/2022) – Sophomore Rachel Kressler (Center Valley, Pa.) scored a 6-2, 6-1, win at number four singles to secure Gwynedd Mercy University (1-2) in a 6-3 win over Eastern University (0-2) on Saturday, March 19. The match-winner and an 8-3 number one doubles victory with sophomore Casey Meenan (Perkasie, Pa.) earned Kressler the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week title.
Gwynedd Mercy University (1-3) surrendered the point of the match at number the doubles, but made up for it with doubles victories in the second (8-0) and first (8-3) team flights; 2-1. In singles, the score evened (2-2) with Gwynedd Mercy University's default at number six singles, 2-2, but three consecutive wins secured the Griffins the match; 5-2. Sophomore Avamarie Backich (Southampton, Pa.) provided the point at number three singles, 6-2, 6-4, sophomore Nicole Rival (Mickleton, N.J.) followed with her 6-2, 6-0, win at number five singles, and Kressler clinched the win with her number-four singles victory. After, the Eagles took number two singles (6-4, 6-3) and Meenan won number one singles; 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Gwynedd Mercy University continues their schedule on Monday, March 28, when they visit Bryn Athyn College for a 4:00 p.m. match.
