Gaston Returns to AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (10/27/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior setter Ayanna Gaston (Middletown, Del.) made a return to the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll for her play in recent matches with Lancaster Bible College (L, 0-3; 0-25, 17-25, 20-25 on Oct. 22), Neumann University (L, 2-3; 16-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 11-15), and King’s College (Pa.) (L, 2-3; 15-25, 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 4-15). In the five-set AEC fray with the Knights, the Griffin captain headlined the Red and Gold effort with four kills, three aces, 45 assists, and six digs. She totaled four kills, three aces, 69 assists, a block assist, and 13 digs.

Gaston was joined on the on the AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll by Centenary University (N.J.) senior Vanessa Pagano (Flemington, N.J.), Immaculata University senior middle hitter Mia Esposito (Havertown, Pa.), Marymount University junior defensive specialist Ava Humphries (Charlotte, N.C.), as well as Neumann University sophomore defensive specialist Hannah Strohm (Lancaster, Pa.) and sophomore outside hitter Melissa Eddy (Dover, Del.). Marywood University swept the AEC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Awards with freshman outside hitter Carolina Samaniego (Laredo, Texas) and freshman setter Ayla Bransford (Colorado Springs, Colo.) respectively taking the AEC Player and Specialist of the Week honors.

Gwynedd Mercy University took a break from league play to visit Lancaster Bible College (13-9) for Wednesday night's competition. The Chargers did not give the Griffins much of a chance in a 25-10 opening set and subsequent sets of 25-17 and 25-20 precipitated a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-20) conclusion. Senior middle hitter Charlotte Pugh (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Red and Gold's top scorer with nine points; she recorded eight kills and a solo block. Gaston fueled the Gwynedd Mercy University effort with 18 assists, a block assist, and five digs.

Gwynedd Mercy University (5-14, 0-3) played in their final tri-match for their 2025 season, taking on AEC opponent Neumann University (11-11, 2-1) in game one and King's College (Pa.) (12-9) in game two. Both contests took all five sets to decide a winner; unfortunately, the Red and Gold fell on the short side of both deciding sets. Gaston did all she could to guide the Griffins against the Knights with four kills, three aces, 45 assists, and six digs, but she could not do the same against the Monarch, bowing out after providing just six assists and a pair of digs.

Gwynedd Mercy University returns to the Griffin Complex on Wednesday, October 29, when they host Marymount University in a 6:00 p.m. AEC match.
