Marable Makes AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Lancaster, Pa. – (1/13/2025) – Gwynedd Mercy University senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 3.5 steals per game in league wins over Marywood University (W, 87-78 (OT) on Jan. 8) and Immaculata University (W, 84-83 on Jan. 11) to earn a spot on the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Neumann University swept the AEC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards as senior guard T.J. Lewis (Parkesburg, Pa.) and junior forward Donte Dupriest (Philadelphia, Pa.) were respectively named the league’s Player and Defensive Player of the Week. Marable was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by Immaculata University sophomore guard Mandon Seapoe (Upper Darby, Pa.), Centenary University (N.J.) freshman forward Domenic Raymond (Trenton, N.J.), Marywood University senior guard Mason Mendygral (Kingston, Pa.), sophomore guard Cameron Windt (Winter Springs, Fla.), as well as Marymount University junior guard Miles Phillips (Chester, Va.) and fifth-year guard Marcus Stubbs (Boyds, Md.).

Overtime certainly served as the determining factor in Wednesday night's AEC season opener as Gwynedd Mercy University hit 7-of-9 (.778) from the field and 4-of-6 (.667) from the free throw line en route to an 87-78 victory over Marywood University (8-7, 0-2). The Griffins took the opening stanza by a 36-25 score as they held the Pacers to 9-of-21 (.429) effort from the floor. The second half was nearly the opposite as the home team recovered by a 43-32 frame that saw the Red and Gold only find success on 38.2% (13-of-34) of their field goal attempts. In the end, graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Monclair, N.J.) led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points; Marable was one of the others as he paired his team-high 12 rebounds with 16 points.

Gwynedd Mercy University (12-0, 2-0) staved off several second-half comeback attempts from Immaculata University (5-11, 0-3) including the last as the Griffins collected win #400 for Head Coach John Baron with an 84-83 AEC triumph over the Mighty Macs. The Red and Gold led for the majority of the first half, maxing their advantage at nine points on a three-point basket from junior guard Devin Benson (Williamstown, N.J.), 34-25 (4:40), before navigating their way to a 41-38 (0:00) halftime lead. But, the Mighty Macs battled to the bitter end, rallying from 12-point deficit, 70-58 (6:43), to challenge the Griffins at the final buzzer. Marable headlined Coach Baron's milestone victory with 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Gwynedd Mercy University briefly breaks from their AEC schedule to host the University of Valley Forge for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on Monday, January 13.
