READING, PA. -- Alvernia defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 4-2, in a non-league contest on Saturday.

Freshman Brooke Stretch (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) scored a goal and assisted on another, but the Griffins could not dig out of an early deficit.

The Crusaders jumped ahead early, netting two goals in the first five minutes of the game. GM got on the board late in the stanza when Stretch set up Christine Hammitt (Delran, N.J./Delran) in the 31st minute for the senior's first score on the season.

Sam Landis and Brittany Barcus would each tally their second goals of the game in the second half to put the Griffins (2-2) in a three-goal deficit.

Stretch made it 4-2 with her tally in the 70th minute with an assist from sophomore Maria Karidas (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South).

AU oushot Gwynedd, 20-7, with GM's Kelly Kruk (Phoenixville, Pa./Methacton) making 11 saves.

The Griffins are back in action on Tuesday, September 13th when they welcome Delaware Valley in a 7 p.m. start.
