Field Hockey Senior Day Settled in Overtime

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (10/25/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (2-13, 0-3) did their seniors proud with a sensational performance in today's 3-2 overtime loss to Atlantic East Conference (AEC) rival, Immaculata University. The Griffins evened the contest with a late first-quarter penalty stroke from senior defender Abby LePage (Cinnaminson, N.J.), 1-1 (14:36), and took a 2-1 (19:50) lead early in the second thanks to a penalty-corner connection between sophomore midfielder Morgan Hoban (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and senior forward Mackenzie Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.). But this time Immaculata University evened the score, 2-2 (28:22), late in the quarter. In overtime, seven-on-seven opened up the field. But a little more than four minutes in, an unfortunate bounce was met by Mighty Mac stick at the Gwynedd Mercy University goalmouth; 3-2 (64:16). Prior to the contest, LePage, Reed, senior forward Emma Dodd (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior midfielder Ayana Lyons (Norristown, Pa.) were recognized for their collegiate careers and their contributions to the Gwynedd Mercy University field hockey program.

Griffin Highlights
  • The Gwynedd Mercy University defense denied several Immaculata University opportunities and junior goalkeeper Nikki Williams (Cinnaminson, N.J.) stopped three Mighty Mac shots in both of the first two quarters and a couple more in the fourth to keep the Griffins in the contest despite a 23-6 shot discrepancy.
  • The Griffins pressured the Mighty Macs early and were rewarded with a series of penalty corners. The reward came later, as LePage capitalized on the aggressive efforts of freshman Rhyan Poole (North Wales, Pa.).
  • The Red and Gold totaled seven penalty corners. They scored on their sixth as Reed highlighted her Senior Day with her fourth goal of the season and and 21st of her collegiate career.
  • Reed led the Griffin offense with three shots.
  • Williams (1-9) totaled eight saves in the contest.
Needing a win to qualify for the AEC Field Hockey Championship Tournament, Gwynedd Mercy University finishes their regular season schedule on Wednesday, October 29, when they visit league rival, Manhattanville University for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
